While shopping today, we went into a little shop and spoke to the female owner for over 1/2 hour. Here is an excerpt from that conversation(shop owner's words):
You adopt this baby?
Did you know special needs?
Did they not send you a picture first?
And, you still came here to get this baby, why?
Do you have other children?
Do they have any disabilities?
Then why adopt her...why not have your own beautiful girl without problem with mouth?
You know I do not think they will never be able to fix her mouth.
You cannot send her to school in US, can you?
Here in China, she would not go to school.
In China, she would never find husband, never get any land, etc.
Some people from U.S. are crazy.
Believe it or not, we enjoyed this conversation and for actually having the opportunity to answer some of the questions that I am sure many of the people we pass on the street are also wondering about (now, it also made Molly want to adopt every child in China that has a special need). Maybe we will share more about this conversation at a later date.
Other developments: Laikyn loves to go swimming. We have taken her every day. She ate pizza last night. We took the famous "red couch" photos with the entire group tonight and she sat there and smiled and grinned the whole time. The current count for changing poopy diapers - Mommy 15 & Daddy 0.

Oh, the red couch! Brings back more wonderful memories. Laikyn is very blessed to be with such great parents and such a great family. Her opportunities are endless. Sounds like Bill has a lot of catching up to do with poopy patrol.

Molly, your face just absolutely glows in this video, the love you show is just overwhelming and brings tears to my eyes and warms my heart. I cannot wait to meet her in person!
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing smile she has as she is enjoying her pizza! I can't wait to hold her and hear another little one calling me "Aunt TT" soon. Jacob stayed here the other night and day and we loved having him. Carson was very jealous of Joey playing with him and kept telling him "you get Jack. I get Jake!" Went shopping on Monday for Laikyn and enjoyed looking at little girl things again. Anything in particular that you guys need? I was thinking we could come and see her on Saturday if you aren't overwhelmed. Just let me know if I can bring something over. Love and miss you all, Tami
ReplyDeleteHow awesome is our God to have blessed you with such a wonderful girl and a wonderful experience as you met her face to face for the first time! We rejoice with you and pray for you! Can't wait to see you guys soon. Tati already wants to babysit for you! Cristina begs me to let her meet Laikyn when I do and even Jonathan is excited about it! We are all so very happy for you!
ReplyDeletelove,
the caverrettas
Okay, everytime I read an update I get teary eyed and smile at the same time! thanks so much for sharing these special days with us! Andrea was sitting here and reading along and she said, "Oh, I am so babysitting!!" ..then she read on and was frustrated and couldn't understand that someone wouldn't love a baby just because of a special need...so I am getting ready to talk to her about this stuff..and I am thinking WOW --God is using Laikyn already to touch many lives and she doesn't even know it..:) What an AWESOME God He is!!We are all so blessed!! love, the Jordan's
ReplyDeleteHello! I was searching my own name and came across this blog! Yes, my name is also Laikyn. (Its even spelled the same!)
ReplyDeleteLaikyn is an absolute doll!
Also, I have two friends in my church who also had cleft pallate (sp?)
Strangely enough, they are twins who both were born with it. They had surgeries on their mouths at a very young age and now (at 19) only talk with a slight lisp.
Anyways, I hope I don't come across as a creeper! ;)
I just found it cool that your daughter an I share the same name and spelling.
Laikyn
PS-my penname is Victoria, that's why that's what it says
