Well, for those of you who like to read, I could probably write a novel about our experience today (I will try to shrink it as much as possible).
We left the hotel for the Registration Office at 10:00 this morning. What was a little surprising was walking into that building and immediately seeing that four of the children were already in the room (four out of the eight families adopting). We recognized Laikyn right away and walked over to her. Many of the other children cried (to be expected leaving their caregivers that they have had for over a year), but Laikyn did not make a sound. She appeared to be checking everything out. She came to Molly with no cries or screams. It immediately seemed like she was where she belonged...in her mom's arms. She also came to me with no issues and everyone else started commenting her happy and curious disposition.
Her caretakers/nannies were there with her and you could tell how much they loved her. They kissed her a bunch and even though there was the language barrier, they kept coming over to us and smiling and doing things like giving us a "thumbs up" sign. Even the director of her orphanage was there and he kept coming over as well. Again, although we could not verbally communicate, it was like he wanted to express to us how special of a little girl we were getting. When the caretakers and director left, we could see them looking at us with Laikyn (at the time we were with her outside by a little pond and waterfall). I think they were checking one last time to make sure she was going to be well taken care of. We are very thankful for them and the care they provided for her. We have many pictures of them to make sure we/Laikyn can be reminded of them and their love for her.
Baby firsts: fell asleep in daddy's arms on the way back to the hotel. Sat straight up on the bed when room service brought lunch and basically lunged for the plates. Had her first french fry along with her rice congee. She looked at pictures of her four brothers and pointed to them and smiled. Mommy is getting ready to give her first bath. One thing we have not witnessed yet is her first cry.
At times, it seems that God's blessings can just overwhelm you. In a day full of busyness and emotion (beginning with Terry telling us how wonderful the boys have been and how much everyone has offered to help with them), we want to make sure He gets the praise and thanksgiving He deserves.

She is beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are so happy for your guys. What a wonderful gift God has blessed you both with. We hope the rest of your journey goes as well as it has so far. We cannot wait to meet little Laikyn in person.
ReplyDeleteI'll start with, you know we're all praying for you. I thought I would lighten it up a little though because if I'm serious I'll start crying and I'm not sure how to type that (ha). I've been pondering two questions as I've read your other blogs (I know it's sad that I couldn't have picked other things); 1) How often do you take out the trash? and 2) Is trash day as stinky as I'm imagining it? And now that I've asked those two questions, another thought has come to mind, taking your trash to the dump could be changed to taking a dump to the trash. O.K. as soon as I stop laughing, I'll continue. Hoping a few Barnhartism's will brighten your day. We love you all very much and can't wait for your to get home. Laikyn, your Uncle Ken, Aunt Gina, and cousins Marissa and MaKenna can't wait for our first hug.
ReplyDeleteKooses here. Nice. Very touching. In fact, after reading (twice) your heart-warming blog, my spouse wept like a Buckeye on a Saturday night. As I was reading, I began to think of your curious little girl looking thoughtfully around when she and you arrive in the New World. (And by the way: surely, curiosity is a sign of a brilliant and inquisitive mind! Neat!!) My spouse would have something to say here in the comment log, but won't put down the Kleenexes. What a blubbering lunatic! Anyway, we love you and we are rejoicing with you!!
ReplyDeletePS - When Mark's done with the Kleenexes, I'll have him toss a comment your way.

ReplyDelete"...in her mom's arms." That statement brought some tears. What an awesome testament of love you guys are giving this little girl. We are praying for your safe return when we all can meet the little Princess!
ReplyDeleteLaikyn is adorable. Reading your blog brings back great memories of our trip to China to adopt Gabrielle; seems like yesterday. Gabrielle has a little Chinese doll set aside that she wants to give to Laikyn. God bless your bonding time with Laikyn. She is beautiful.

Well now that I am figuring out this blog thing, I can actually post a comment about my beautiful niece! As Mom told me about your phone call to her I was crying all the way to my first appointment yesterday. We are so happy for you, Laikyn and the boys. Faith was especially excited to see the picture of Molly holding Laikyn and she can't wait until she can hold her too! We will continue to pray for your trip to go well and your return home to be safe. Please continue to blog and show pictures! We love it! Love to all 3 of you, Tami & family
ReplyDeleteWe are so excited for you guys. Molly looks absolutely elated in that picture, and of course, baby Laikyn is beautiful in her mother's arms.
ReplyDeleteI can't help but think of how similar this situation is to our Father who lovingly awaits our adoption as sons and daughters and then eagerly embraces us with unconditional love and sheer elation. What a marvelous thing that has happened here!
We are all so happy for you to finally get the latest addition to your family! We can't imagine the overflow of love you both must feel right now. One thing for sure-Laikyn is very intelligent since she clearly knew right away Molly is her mommy. We wish the three of you a safe and laughter filled remainder of your trip.
